Wow! So the snow is melting here in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan and I am starting to believe spring is on its way!  I hope I am not too premature in saying that since it is mid-February, but a girl can be hopeful, right?!?

I just started looking back at my journey to and through photography today and realized that I have been so beyond fortunate to have a husband who encourages me to follow my dreams and ideas wherever they may lead.  The past 2 years I have sort of put photography on the back burner a little bit to start an e-commerce business and most of all enjoy my kids while they are still little!  However, I am starting to realize that I truly miss being behind the camera!  So here’s to getting back behind the camera a bit more in 2018 while still trying not to miss all the little moments that make motherhood the greatest gift on the planet!

Cheers!

Kristen came into the studio one evening with her sister and step mom.  These three ladies are so great!  Not only did they spend about two hours picking out outfits, fun hats and enjoying the evening but they even brought in an awesome bench that Kristen had made in one of her classes at Sault High.  It made for an awesome prop and one of a kind photos!  Kristen loves One Direction so we made sure to have the soundtrack ready for her session.  I’m sure we probably heard the same song 3 times by the time her session was over, but she never seemed to mind.:) sault ste marie michigan high school senior portraitsPINIMAGE2015-08-25_0002PINIMAGE2015-10-19_0001PINIMAGE

Kara and Will had the most perfect setting for their summer Les Cheneaux / Cedarville wedding.  When people think of the small tourist town in northern Michigan, the thing that most often comes to mind is the lake and that’s just where they had their wedding- right at the Lake Huron’s edge.  As you will see when scrolling through the photographs the details of their wedding were absolutely stunning from the rings to the flowers and even cute desserts, everything was great beautifully done. I’m going to warn you ahead of time though, the beautiful and very colorful macaroons, cupcakes and other little desserts were all complements of Will’s sister who is a pastry chef in Boston and may entice you to grab something sweet while finishing scrolling through their wedding photos.  Although the wedding details were an absolute plus of photographing their wedding, the best part was that Kara and Will were the most down to earth, relaxed couple I have ever worked with to date.  This made their wedding truly enjoyable and their photos fabulous.  I have never felt more like a guest at a wedding I was photographing before.PINIMAGE2015-07-24_0003PINIMAGEThese are the stunning, colorful little desserts I warned you about!  Make sure you’renot enjoying these photographs on an empty stomach!  2015-07-24_0001PINIMAGE Kara’s wedding dress had the most detailed beautiful lace I have ever seen on a wedding dress!  Gorgeousssss!PINIMAGEPINIMAGEThese rings are absolutely gorgeous!!! 2015-07-24_0002PINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEPINIMAGEWhen scrolling through the first dance photos I found this little gem!  Here I have caught Will twisting his ring around his finger, something I used to catch my husband doing when we first got married.  I have found that most men do this shortly after getting married because they are not used to having a ring on their finger and it feels different.  After posting this photo on facebook I had 3 other women tell me about their husbands doing this exact same thing.  I was so happy to have caught such a real moment on camera.  PINIMAGE

The other night after work, my sister, Kristen, brought her little 5 month old baby, Audrey over for a quick photo session.  I photographed them for maybe all of 20 minutes before being dragged away by swarms of mosquitos!  If you live or have been to Northern Michigan in the late spring/early summer you will know all about this.  Kristen is breastfeeding Audrey and asked that I photograph the special bond between the two of them that breastfeeding has brought about so (as an advocate for breastfeeding, myself) I was more than happy to do so for them.  I am still a huge proponent for candids and capturing what unfolds naturally as well as throwing in a few posed pictures since not everyone is a fan of the same style. Needless to say, photographing these two renewed my love for capturing real moments between a child and their parent.
